  5. Resolved Question: Can someone proofread this please?
  6. 4 Jun 2008 at 7:43pm
here are 2 paragraphs and I need advice on whether its good or not. Please explain if something is wrong grammatically or doesnt sound good. ?When Toddlers Turn On The TV and Actually Learn?, a New York Times article by Lisa Guernsey states various examples of how children can learn from television without being emotionally harmed. For instance, research has proven that children that watched ?Blue's Clues?, a popular children's show, performed higher on a test than those children that were not familiar this show. It has been discovered that children respond to educational shows that create a back 'n' forth conversations between the audience and the host. They can learn faster this way because it gets them involved and participating, instead of just listening to a drear explanation of a topic. After conducting a survey on a High School class, I discovered interesting patterns arising among teenagers that might have stemmed from childhood habits. While studying the graph on the number of hours spent watching television, it was found that the average hour increased among students of ages sixteen to eighteen. When combining the hours of the twenty two people that participated in the survey, approximately 3 hours of television was watched per day on average. Sixteen year olds viewed about 2.6 hours of television in 24 hour period. Seventeen year olds reported watching an estimated 3.7 hours of television and eighteen year olds watched 4.5 hours of television per day.

  7. Voting Question: Any Advice?
  8. 4 Jun 2008 at 5:14pm
Ok so theres this guy I've been talking to for a while now and we even know eachother in person and everything. Now he doesn't seem like a shy guy or anything and he's kind of like the popular jock type. The thing is he hasn't ever asked me to go somewhere with him or for my phone number and honestly I'm getting kind of bored with him. I don't know if the problem is also because of me but i usually find our conversations pretty boring. The first time we ever talked went pretty good cuz he opened up a lot and flirted alot. Now he never really has an interesting topic to talk about and he talks like we're only friends half the time. Maybe i could get some interesting topics to talk about? or something else? I know he likes me or at least thats what he's told me, recently even. And I really doubt that he'd be worried to be caught cheating if he had a gf cuz we go to different schools and we don't know either of eachothers friends or anything.

Do you feel like certain topics, popular or not need to be discussed? What do you think needs be discussed about them? An example that I think needs to be discussed more is neutering.. Its a popular one but i feel as though its still a topic of discussion. There are great points for and against it. ( i won't go into specifics but you can if you want) i wasn't going to judge and I am still not going to. To the person who said there are no points against not neutering...look up Stump Pyometra. I'm not agreeing or disagree, but check this out...its a good point on not neutering.

What impact do you think the introduction of Conscription will have on French/English relations?) those three questions are just EXAMPLES. I meant i gotta make my own questions like them.

  31. Resolved Question: So Wikipedia is inaccurate?
  32. 29 May 2008 at 11:16am
I understand you shouldn't site it as a source in a research paper, but its the best and most reliable surce on the internet. In fact it s just as reliable as nearly any other website you Google, in fact much more due to the mass info. Especially with music history and general info it is great. I know a great bit about music from over the past 100 years and its really all from there. I have had come across no contradictions even in encyclopedias. In fact it often debunks popular rumors being that is such as central point of information. I have had people tell me that the Science articles are extremely accurate and with much more information than other sources. However I realize some topics are vulnerable to error, I have that mainstream history would be one. Although it would even there be a good source for general info, and much more reliable than googling any site.

"man made global warming" until after he had the nomination wrapped up. I know it was mentioned once or twice before hand... but he really didn't campaign heavily on it durring the primary. Does it worry you that he has been duped into this? How does he expect to stregnthen the economy when he plans to throw away billions on this myth and stangle corporations with meaningless regulations that will have costly effects? Or do you think he is trying to gain the moderate Democrat vote? I believe he has been hoodwinked by Al Gores lie and he will take a liberal position on this topic as he will many others... unfortunately, he actually is the best choice this year... sad as it is. http://ijustcannotshutup.typepad.com/my_weblog/2008/05/john-mccain-dup.html Your thoughts? laughing.... we all know the earth goes through natural cycles... but check out the link... McCain is a stern believer that we need to act now to end "Man made" global warming. He drank the kool ade and he liked it. Leslie... here is a start for you... please answer ANY of these topics with EVIDENCE... not theory. Remember, theories do not make fact... no matter how much the media repeats it. http://www.prisonplanet.com/archives/global_warming/index.htm Mae... I never said Repubs know nothing or don't care about the environment... perhaps you should more carefully read the question. I am VERY conservative, but I am not blind. As far as Nuclear Power... I have never seen a Democrat for that... and if they are I would back them. Nuclear power has proved to be safe for literally decades now. It is extremely clean for the environment and produces massive amounts of energy. It would also go a LONG way towards becoming more energy independent from oil. Sorry... but sometimes you just have to be honest with the facts. Irwilliams... I know they now call it "climate change" but I refuse to let them get away with it. The climate ALWAYS changes.... we have had those "season" things since the beginning of time. I will not let them call it anything different.

  54. 23 May 2008 at 8:51pm
While I am familiar with many non-science topics, I feel most comfortable writing about what I know best: Electronic Dance Music and, well, Science. My concern is that much of this information is very obscure and the reader's may not be familiar with my evidence especially that regarding EDM. I am capable of explaining these clearly, but I'm wondering if I will be marked down on "quality of supporting evidence" because there's a small possibility the reader might think I made up some of the genres such as Trance (a sub genre of EDM). I've had people believe I made up the Trance genre before (which is bizarre considering it's the most popular music in the world in terms of club play with House coming in close second).

  69. Resolved Question: Why are liberals trying to claim Jesus as one of theirs?
  70. 21 May 2008 at 10:17am
It seems to be a popular topic on Y/A today. Isn't it true that Jesus wasn't really into politics, but I have to believe He seemed to act more like a conservative. He helped people on His own, He didn't wait around for the government to fix all the problems. moses: that is why your party suffers. Conservatives care enough to teach people to solve their problems without government intervention, you know... like Jesus. guess who: wow, you just keep telling yourself that. When has the liberal congress helped you? Nice job on Pelosi's promise to lower gas prices and end the war. Keep drinking the kool aid. Echo: Is that all you have, way to enlighten us. truth seeker: Yeah, I've read it. What verse is it you think Jesus supported government intervention? You missed the point completely, and I know you haven't read the New Testament. Tribeca: Don't take a quote out of context. If you look where Jesus dealt with the rich young ruler, he made the quote about the camel and the needle, and then he said "...with man this is impossible, with God all things are possible". So he wasn't making a political argument. Do you need any other lessons on the Bible? deconstu...: Don't rewrite the Bible to fit your beliefs, it's obtuse. deconstru... your last desperate line says plenty about you. Wow, are you lost.

  71. Voting Question: Need a Topic for a Paper - Related to Movies / Crime Movies?
  72. 21 May 2008 at 9:00am
Help! I'm a real movie lover and I have to write a 2000 word paper about 20th century culture (the topics are fairly limitless for this). Since I really love movies (particulary crime movies), can anyone think of a good thesis topic for a paper? I have a couple of ideas - one being, "Crime Pays : ______" - regarding how profitable / popular crime movies have been throughout the 20th century. If I do this, can anyone help me finish the title? Or do you have a better idea? I'm afraid that paper might end up turning into a bunch of data and not be very interesting. Any help with ideas is HIGHLY appreciated. THANKS A MILLION YAHOO BUDDIES!!!!

  75. Resolved Question: The Gospel of Oprah?
  76. 20 May 2008 at 11:32am
Oprah Winfrey has been in the news a lot lately for her vastly popular online spirituality classes. Oprah often deals with spiritual topics and has a large audience of people who seem to follow her advice, judging by the way sales increase when she promotes a book on her program. Millions are flocking to her programs on television and radio, where she purports to give answers to our spiritual quest. Oprah has been known to offer her opinions on Christianity as well. Here?s one exchange she had with her audience. Oprah asking her talk show audience, ?How can there be only one way to heaven or to God?? One woman in the audience asks, ?What about Jesus?? Oprah replies, ?What about Jesus? There couldn't possibly be one way.? Is Oprah right? Are there many ways to God? Could there not possibly be one way? It may not be popular, and it may not seem fair to those who do not understand that God is just and requires an atonement for our sins against Him before we can come to Him. But according to Jesus Christ, He IS the only way. In the Gospel of John, Jesus Himself said, ?I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.? So who do we believe? Oprah, Tom Cruise, (Pastor) Charles Stanley, or Jesus Himself?

  77. Resolved Question: I am looking for a good forum?
  78. 20 May 2008 at 8:16am
Hi all. I am looking for some good forums or message boards. I hope them have the following features: 1, the informative posts are marked/voted by thread starters/ administrators/board managers. Apple discussion is a good example. http://discussions.apple.com/index.jspa. Good answers there are marked as helpful or solved posts. But that's the only one I've ever found. I know that in some forums, hot threads are rated. For posts in other threads, we dont know whether they are valuable. The forum in Yahoo! answers is exatly the case. People can vote or comment on others' messages. But the comments themselves are not marked. 2, the forum can be related to any subject. It's better to be a popular forum, say, more than 500 members. And it should be a forum. By that I mean people "discuss" various topics there, not just post questions and answers. Yahoo! answer is not my choice for that reason. Many thanks.

  79. Voting Question: The origin of Inhalents?
  80. 19 May 2008 at 2:29pm
In an upcoming essay for health class, I am required to cover the topic of "Inhalants abuse." (The use of household items, such as spray paint or glue, to get high.) Our teacher has provided us with a list of questions for our essays, one of them being, "Explain the origin of inhalant abuse." How may I best answer this question? Specifically, a time period in which inhalant abuse became popular would be best. Thanks!

  81. Resolved Question: Is your website popular?
  82. 19 May 2008 at 10:44am
Hello guys, I have a question. Do you own a popular website? If so, do you know how much unique visitors do you have per day? Because many people just dont know how much visits they have, and they don't realize potential of making money online. Also, may I ask for the topic of the popular website (no, I'm not going to steal your idea).

  83. Resolved Question: Can this be considered rape?
  84. 17 May 2008 at 7:03pm
*Debate with fellow students. A lady in her 20s sets up a date with her and a guy she met off of the popular dating site, "The Spot". With sex on the mind, she dressed up in her most sensual outfit and left her apartment promptly to meet up with him at a nearby restaurant. They meet up, order food, and begin to chat about their lives. Feeling a little bored with their current topic, she begins to gently massage his knee and slowly work her way up his thigh. He looks at her and she winks at him, biting her lips. She leans in and says to him, "Let's go back to my place." and he complies. They get back to her apartment, she unlocks the door and before they enter, he asks if she's sure she wants to do this and she says "yes". Right after her response, he shoves her inside and locks the door. He shoves her onto the floor, beats her mercilessly, tears off her clothes, and "has relations with her". Do you consider this rape? If so, why? Was sex not her first int *Was sex not her first intention?

  87. Resolved Question: Was my grandfather a rapist?
  88. 15 May 2008 at 4:03pm
Since we're on a good marriage kick I'll bring up a (somewhat) personal experience with what is now a controversial issue. It also includes another popular topic on this forum. My grandparents got married in 1960. My grandfather was 20, my grandmother 17. They got married because my grandmother was pregnant with my mom. Today that kind of thing would get my grandfather thrown in jail for statutory rape in most places. I was wondering what everyone's opinions on this are. The sex was consentual from all accounts (they haven't come out and said it like that of course, and I'm definitely not asking them, but it's pretty apparent this wasn't outright rape). I know this wasn't exactly uncommon back then, so many of you probably have relatives that went through this too. Okay, the age of consent in Alabama (where they live now and lived at the time) is actually 16. I thought it was 18. So I guess this doesn't matter anyway. I guess I wasted this 5 points. It's 18 in some places though, and it's 18 across state lines if I'm reading the law correctly, so this still could come up.

  89. Voting Question: What would make a great history term paper topic?
  90. 14 May 2008 at 10:58pm
At my school, next year, we all have to write a HUGE history paper. It's very important to our overall grade and I believe it's supposed to encompass about 4-5 months work. I need to find a interesting topic and the problem is that there are so many options! I can basically pick anything so long as it relates to American History (1700-2000 seems reasonable). Something in the 20th century seems to be the most popular time frame for topics. So- I need a really cool topic that's small enough to be unique (no WW2 essays), but has a lot of information and supporting evidence (nothing too obscure). One of my good friends did hers on the "Gangs of New York." (William Tweed, Bill the Butcher, etc. etc. ) I'd really appriciate any help! I think it's supposed to be about 20-30 pages, just to give you an idea of the length... although I could be wrong and it's actually longer.

  91. Resolved Question: If you could be ANY LIVING celeb on the planet who would y...
  92. 14 May 2008 at 6:18pm
This was very random and I had some free time........lol.....anyways..... My answer is simple.....Justin Timberlake!!! Reasons.... 1. He is probably one of the MOST POPULAR people on the PLANET!!!--I would say his populartiy is even bigger than it was when he was with Nsync.....and they were INSANELY popular. 2. He's rich as hell (duh)---but its to the point where he could not spend it all even if he TRIED---you always hear about the "rock stars" who spend all their money on drugs, partying and shopping sprees.....even if he did this....he would DIE before he spent all his money!! (funny thing is nowadays....his $20 Mil salary is actually just "average" if you compare it to some other celebs.....thats a different topic though) 3. He can get ANY woman he wants....and he knows it too..... 4. He's a musician (my opinion again....I would MUCH RATHER be a popular musician than an actor, sports star etc...)---being in front of 20,000 SCREAMING fans---many of which are females--who are screaming JUST FOR HIM (no one else to "share the spotlight" with now)....I think that DEF. beats being an actor or sports star(although this would be my second choice) 5. I can guarantee he OPITIMIZES the phrase "party like a rockstar" (he gives small "hints"--which drive the media crazy).........BUT.....he is smart enough to NOT let too much of it out (esp in a neg. light...he has no DUIs or disordely conduct or other crap celebs get into)....so people get obsessed with him and want to know EVERYTHING he does........adds publicity (fame). 6. He makes kick *** music, and also has a awesome style. 7. If I had a body like--wearing a shirt would only be for "special occasions." 8. He was talented and smart enought to make the AMAZING transition from "boy band memeber" to awesome pop/R&B/hip-hop style....or whatever he is now (its GREAT though). He was also smart enough to diversify into other parts of the business (he started a record label and clothing line) so IF his career ever slows down......he will have something to fall back on....not like he would need the money though....lol. Anyways....thats a lot of reasons for me....but you can give as many or as little as you want....... Open to both guys and girls........ Im 22 btw if you were wondering how old I was. Ya i may be slightly over-obsessed....lol...whatever.....this is why i love yahoo answers.....can share my thoughts with almost complete annoymity....

  97. Resolved Question: Is the world coming to an end? (a popular topic)?
  98. 13 May 2008 at 2:23pm
First, came the 2012 Doomsday prophecy, then global warming was realized, shortly thereafter, the honeybees began to die, then the storms in the midwest, followed by the cyclone at the other side of the world. And now, there's been an earthquake in china, 7.8, the largest they've had in 30 YEARS. Now something's going on with the whales, and not to mention 9/11. And did you hear about those "little" earthquakes near California? Is the end of the world as we know it coming to an end?
